In 1990, Nancy Markowitz became the Director of the first family mediation program in Maine. She mediated and trained mediators through the University of Southern Maine and Volunteers of America for over 25 years. She retired in 2015 and now works full time without pay for “Welcoming the Stranger,” a volunteer program that provides mentors for people seeking asylum.
