The Rotary Club of Portland was established just over a century ago, the world's 177th Rotary Club, chartered on September 1, 1915.

The object of this club, and every other Rotary club, is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster the following ideals:
- The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
- The promotion of high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
- The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
- The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Here in Portland, these ideals have been spelled out in terms of the club's service to Portland and its region, its charitable work in support of local organizations, and in the many friendships and acquaintances that have flourished thanks to Rotary fellowship over the past 98 years. These pages include information on our club.
