Communications Committee: Mark Carpentier- Chair
This committee is responsible for the dissemination of information about Portland Rotary, both internally to its members and externally to the general public. The primary method of internal dissemination of information is "The Windjammer" bulletin. Committee members will serve as editors to report weekly meeting programs and events of the meeting. Editors are assigned on a rotating basis, put the material in written form and deliver it to the Rotary office by noon of the following Monday. Members will keep in contact with other committees of the club to help them publicize events that will happen or have happened in the Portland Rotary Club.
Community Service: Rich Cantz, Erik Lusk -Co-Chairs
This committee devises and carries into effect plans which will guide and assist the members of this club in discharging their responsibilities to their community in accordance with that avenue of Rotary. Recommends to the board the expenditure of funds and projects to achieve these ends. Plans at least one program each year.
Constitution and By-Laws Committee: Alan Levenson, Tony Manhart -Co-Chairs
This committee acts on preparing any changes that are necessary to bring our constitution and by-laws into compliance with any recent enactments approved by at R.I. Conventions. In addition, the committe recommends to the board and membership those changes needed to improve club operation.
Fund-raising Committee: Dick Hall, Charlie Frair-Co-Chairs
The name of this committee implies its purpose. While the board determines the budget necessary to operate the club during the year, the responsibility for generating part of those funds rests with this committee. The committee reviews potential fund-raising activities in light of need, object of Rotary, fellowship and goodwill, and makes recommendations to the board. The committee promotes the projects within the club and enlists necessary help for success.
Good Cheer: Judy Cavalero-Chair
International Service: Eric Jorgensen, Don Lowry-Co-Chair
This committee devises and carries into effect plans which will guide and assist members of this club in discharging their responsibilities in matters of international service. Plans at least one program each year.
Invocation: Tom Nickerson -Chair
This committee is responsible for giving the invocation at each meeting
Long Range Planning: Rick Snow-Chair
This committee meets when needed to help develop long range planning for the club and report their recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Meeting Day Committee: Emily McEntee-Chair
This committee will be responsible for the sale of meal tickets and registering visiting Rotarians and guests. Arrival time should be no later than 11:35 and should stay at their tables until 12:25. The Meeting Day Committee works closely with the club secretary and executive secretary to assure the club office and meeting place are satisfactory to achieve the purpose of Portland Rotary. The meeting day committee shall also review meals, meal prices, physical facilities, parking facilities and general facility conditions. If there is no meeting scheduled on a Friday, or if we are at an off site location, then a member of the committee needs to be at The Portland Club to provide make up cards and general assistance. This committee is important to the fellowship image of Portland Rotary, the eyes of other Rotary Clubs and potential members.
Membership Development Committee: Bruce Jones-Chair
This committee helps to develop members growth of Portland Rotary. It promotes acquaintance and friendship among the members and proposed members. It is the responsibility of this committee to create an atmosphere that makes every Rotarian feel welcome and needed by the club. Because this committee is also responsible for attendance, members will have an early warning of attendance problems that are developing and communicate this to the directors of the club. This committee will also devise means for encouraging attendance at Rotary meetings-including club assemblies, district conferences, inter-city meetings, international conferences and conventions by all club members; keeps members informed of attendance requirements; promotes better incentives for good attendance; and encourages attendance at regular club meetings or regular meetings of other clubs when a member is unable to attend their home meeting.
Music Committee: Russ Burleigh-Chair
This committee is responsible for providing music, piano player and song leaders each week. Details and schedule will be given to the club executive secretary for inclusion in the Windjammer. Plan musical programs throughout the year.
Program Committee: Dave Putnam -Chair
This committee is responsible for preparing and arranging the programs for the regular and special meetings of the club. Quarterly chairs should be established and committee members distributed evenly over the four quarters. Programs should have variety, be timely, entertaining, informative and use a diversified method of presentation. Members of the committee develop promotional material for the Windjammer, serve as host for the program and make the introductions. Care should be given to special events and Rotary International programs.
Roster Committee: Loretta Rowe
Rotary Foundation: Amy Chipman -Chair
This committee assists club Rotarians in making donations to the Rotary internation Fuondation. This includes contributions toward Paul Harris Fellows.
Rotary Information Committee: Larry Gross -Chair
This committee devises and carries into effect plans for imparting to the members, especially new members, an adequate understanding of the privileges and responsibilities of members and the history, object, scope, administration, activities and meaning of Rotary.
Sargeant at Arms Committee: Bowen Depke-Chair
This committee assists the President in the conduct of the regular meetings of the club and has such other duties as may be assigned to it from time to time by the President or the Board of Directors. This committee is responsible for the physical setup at the facility including P.A., flags, penny cans, songbooks, movable platform and special program needs. At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee makes sure all these items are returned to the proper place, tables, etc.
Special Activities Committee: Dave Seddon - Chair, Vice Erik Jorgensen-Chair
This committee plans any special activities of the Club, such as Lobster Bake, Tennis Tournament, Dance, Road Race, etc. and works hand-in-hand with the Fund Raising Committees. Activities should be geared around fellowship, enjoyment and fulfillment of clubs good works. This committee proposes the fun activities of the Club that may not necessarily be fund raising in nature.
Vocational Service: - Jack Carr-Chair
This committee devises and carries into effect plans that will guide and assist the members of the club in discharging their responsibilities in their vocational relationship and in improving general standards of practice in their respective vocations. Plan at least one program each year to highlight this avenue of service. This committee sponsors the PATHS House Project where the Rotary provides money to pay for all the materials to allow the PATHS carpentry, electrical, and plumbing programs to build a house at the school. Proceeds form the sale are used to fund the next years house as well as provide toolships for graduating students. Any excess goes to the Portland Rotary Charitable fund.
Youth Service Committee: Ellen Niewoehner-Chair
This committee devises and carries into effect plans which will guide and assist members of this club in discharging their responsibilities to youth service in particular including DARE programs. It reviews requests from youth service groups in the community for funds or assistance and makes recommendations to the Board for funding. The Student Recognition Award is handled by this committee
